Lodging

Dorm housing will be provided to students (paid for by HiPACC) from check-in Sunday, July 20, through check-out Saturday, August 2. Sunday check out may be requested when registering. Attendees choosing HiPACC-provided lodging will be asked to share an apartment with (1–4) attendees. Participants will have their own private room with shared bathroom, kitchen and living space. Laundry facilities will be available for participants staying in the apartments. Apartment-mates will be assigned according to gender and by request, and you have the option to request a particular apartment-mate when you register.

Check in/out for on-campus apartment housing is at Eleanor Roosevelt College (ERC) Student Activities Center (Conference Service Center). Check in is after 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 20. Check out is from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 2. In the event you arrive after 11 p.m. on July 20, or have difficulty finding where to check-in for your apartment, you can call 858.534.1142 to reach the a Conference Services Center staff member.

Meals

On Monday, July 21, join us for a welcome dinner for students and lecturers at 5:00 p.m. at the Home Plate Cafe next door to SDSC.

Summer school will offer the following meals on weekdays at SDSC:

Continental breakfasts, 8:30–9:00 a.m.
Mid-morning coffee breaks, 11–11:30 a.m.
Lunches, 12:30–2:30 p.m.
Afternoon break/snack, 3:45–4:15 p.m.

Students will be responsible for all other meals on their own.

Balboa Park Excursion, 7/27

Students and lecturers who sign up for the outing will meet outside of SDSC at noon on Sunday 7/27 for the shuttle to Balboa Park near downtown San Diego. Shuttle, dinner and theater tickets are provided for those who sign up (museum entrance fees are not included).

Students must sign up at registration on the first day, Monday 7/21. Lecturers who wish to attend should either notify us in advance at hipacc@ucsc.edu or sign up at registration on Monday 7/21. Beginning on Tuesday 7/22, those not signed up will only be able to attend if there is still space available.

Free time to wander and enjoy the park which includes gardens, world class museums, restaurants, and attractions. For more information, go to www.balboapark.org.

Meet at the Hall of Champions at 5:30 pm for dinner at the Home Plate restaurant. Then walk over to the Old Globe at 7:30 for the 8:00 p.m. performance of Othello.

Meet the shuttle to return to SDSC after the performance at 10:00pm in front of the Museum of Art, same place as you will be dropped off.

Travel Instructions

Note: Students are responsible for booking their own airline tickets. Lodging reservations (on campus only) will be made through the registration page.

UC-HiPACC will be able to reimburse students traveling to San Diego for ISSAC 2014 for transportation costs (airfare, private car mileage, shuttles/taxi, etc.) not to exceed $500. Please see these instructions for further details.
